The family of Captain Daniel Perez is set to hold a second funeral for him in Jerusalem after his body was returned from Gaza by Hamas, nearly two years after his death. Perez, originally from South Africa and a tank commander in the 7th Armored Brigade's 77th Battalion, was killed on October 7 during clashes with Hamas fighters, and his body was taken captive. In March 2024, his death was officially declared, and his family held a funeral at Mount Herzl cemetery, burying his blood-stained clothing in lieu of his remains. With his body now recovered, his remains will be added to the casket during the evening ceremony, which will be streamed live online.
