Super PACs Tied to Cuomo Buoyed by Million-Dollar Donations

Major donations from billionaire business leaders have poured into two super political action committees working to undermine Zohran Mamdani's campaign for New York City mayor. The groups, Fix the City and Defend NYC, received three separate $1 million contributions from Joe Gebbia, a prominent tech executive, and Bill Ackman, a well-known investor. Both donors have close ties to President Trump and have expressed opposition to Mamdani's progressive platform.

The influx of cash comes as former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary, trails Mamdani by double digits in most polls. The super political action committees are focusing their spending on direct voter outreach and digital advertising in a last-ditch effort to boost Cuomo's chances. Mamdani, who has received far less outside support, has criticized Cuomo and his wealthy backers for attempting to buy the election, highlighting their connections to Trump.

Meanwhile, the groups' leaders and donors have continued to publicly attack Mamdani's policies and character, while Cuomo has downplayed the influence of outside money on his campaign. The race has become a flashpoint for debates over the role of big money in politics and the influence of national political figures in local elections.
