Turkey is advancing its efforts to modernize its air force by signing a significant agreement with Britain for the purchase of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets. This deal, valued at 5.4 billion pounds, encompasses not only the aircraft but also equipment and a comprehensive weapons package, including advanced air-to-air and ground attack missiles. The first delivery of these jets is anticipated in 2030, marking a major step in Turkey's long-term defense planning.
In addition to the British deal, Turkey is actively negotiating with Qatar and Oman to acquire 24 more Eurofighter Typhoon jets, which are lightly used and would help meet its immediate operational requirements. These ongoing talks reflect Ankara's broader strategy to strengthen its air defenses and deepen military cooperation with regional partners.
