Fenerbahce, the EuroLeague basketball champions from Turkey, will play upcoming matches against Israeli teams Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv in Munich rather than Istanbul. This decision comes after Turkish authorities implemented security measures, prompting the club to relocate the games scheduled for November 11 and 13. Fenerbahce previously moved home fixtures against Maccabi to Lithuania last season due to similar concerns.
Israeli basketball clubs have been playing their home games abroad since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. However, EuroLeague officials recently agreed to allow matches to return to Israel beginning December 1, 2025, following a ceasefire agreement. The move has sparked protests from top Turkish teams, including Fenerbahce and Anadolu Efes, who oppose the decision to let Israeli teams host European competition games in Israel again.
