Palestinian author Nasser Abu Srour, recently released after 32 years in Israeli prisons, described a sharp rise in brutality and torture over the past two years, particularly since October 2023. Abu Srour, freed as part of a ceasefire deal and exiled to Egypt, recounted how detention centers became 'another front' of the conflict, with guards adopting a warlike mentality and increasing physical abuse. He detailed the harsh conditions faced by prisoners, including deprivation of food, warmth, and basic necessities, as well as the confiscation of all reading and writing materials. Despite enduring years of torture and isolation, Abu Srour managed to complete his studies and write a memoir, which has gained international recognition. His release was marked by disbelief and further violence, but ultimately brought him freedom after decades of suffering.
