Sepideh Farsi, once imprisoned in Iran for her activism, now lives in France and creates films exploring themes of exile and resilience. After the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in 2023, Farsi sought to document the conflict but was unable to enter Gaza, so she began filming in Egypt with refugees and connected remotely with Fatima Hassouna, a photojournalist in Gaza City. Their friendship, developed entirely through video calls, forms the heart of the documentary 'Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,' which captures both the daily struggles and enduring hope of Hassouna and her family amid worsening conditions. The film uses inventive techniques to immerse viewers in the reality of life in Gaza, incorporating Hassouna's own photographs and candid conversations. Tragically, just after the film was accepted to the Cannes Film Festival, Hassouna and nine family members were killed in an airstrike, making the documentary a poignant record of her life and perspective.
