Syria has announced its intention to actively support the United States in combating armed groups linked to Iran and Lebanon, including the Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah. This development follows interim president Ahmed Al-Sharaa's historic visit to the White House, marking a significant shift in Syria's foreign relations after the ousting of Bashar Assad by a rebel coalition led by Sharaa. The United States special envoy stated that Damascus will help confront and dismantle remnants of militant organizations operating in the region.
Discussions have also taken place regarding the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into Syria's new economic, defense, and civic structures. The Kurdish-led group, which played a crucial role in defeating Daesh, has reached preliminary agreements with the Syrian government to merge its forces into national institutions, although the process has encountered obstacles. These moves signal a new phase in Syria's cooperation with international partners and efforts to stabilize the country.
