Overlooked No More: Sabina Spielrein, Visionary Lost Between Freud and Jung

Sabina Spielrein was a pioneering psychoanalyst whose groundbreaking theories on the dual forces of creation and destruction in human psychology predated and influenced the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Despite publishing over 35 papers and making significant contributions to psychoanalysis and child psychology, her achievements were long overshadowed by her male contemporaries and complicated by her personal relationships with them. Spielrein's work anticipated later feminist theory and offered early insights into language development in children, yet she was largely forgotten until her diaries and letters resurfaced in the late twentieth century. Tragically, Spielrein and her two daughters were killed during the Nazi occupation of Rostov-on-Don in 1942, and only recently has her legacy begun to receive the recognition it deserves.
