MKs across party lines slam Haredi extremist attack on Shas lawmaker

Lawmakers from both the government and opposition have strongly condemned an attack on Yoav Ben-Tzur, a member of the Shas party, by ultra-Orthodox extremists in Jerusalem. The incident occurred after Ben-Tzur left a Torah lesson, with assailants smashing his car window, reportedly in protest of his party's support for legislation regulating ultra-Orthodox military enlistment.

Political leaders described the attack as a grave violation of democratic norms and Torah values, calling for severe action against those responsible. The event has reignited debate over military conscription for ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students, a contentious issue currently under discussion in parliament.

Opposition and coalition figures stressed that sensitive matters such as conscription should be addressed through dialogue and proper legislative channels, not through violence or intimidation. The attack has drawn attention to deep divisions within Israeli society over the role of religion and military service.
