Rainfall causes floods in parts of drought-stricken Iran

Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding in several western regions of Iran, following months of severe drought that has led to the country's worst water crisis in decades. Authorities have issued flood warnings for six provinces and anticipate rain in over half of the country's provinces. Despite the recent downpours, rainfall levels remain far below average, with reservoirs depleted and water shortages affecting even the capital, Tehran. The crisis has been exacerbated by mismanagement, illegal well drilling, and inefficient agricultural practices, alongside the impacts of climate change. In response, Iran has begun cloud seeding efforts to induce rainfall, though officials caution this is only a temporary measure. There are growing concerns that, if the drought persists, major cities like Tehran could become uninhabitable.
