Former Operations Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Oded Basiuk has been dismissed from reserve duty by the Israeli military's Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, due to his involvement in the failures leading up to the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas. The decision follows a probe by an external panel of experts, after which Zamir pledged to make personal decisions regarding senior commanders. Basiuk had already stepped down as operations chief in July after announcing his resignation. Other senior officers, including former intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva and former signals intelligence commander Brig. Gen. Yossi Sariel, are expected to meet with Zamir soon as part of the ongoing review. The military is expected to release a full list of officers and any sanctions imposed shortly.
