The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, established after the October 7 attack to support families of hostages in Gaza, is significantly scaling back its activities as only three families remain to be supported. The Forum, which became the main voice for most hostage families and organized mass rallies in Tel Aviv, will close its offices and offer its remaining funds to the families of the three hostages whose bodies are still held in Gaza. Most of the Forum's work now involves supporting these families as intelligence efforts continue to locate the bodies, rather than the public advocacy and diplomacy that previously defined its mission. A small group of volunteers will remain available, and the families will decide how to proceed with any further activities, including whether to continue the weekly rallies.
The Forum's closure marks a shift from its earlier promise to fight 'until the last hostage,' but leaders say the organization is adapting to the new reality, as most hostages have been returned following a ceasefire and the focus has shifted to recovery of the last three bodies. Donations have sharply declined, and a new organization, Organization 255, is being formed to fill the gap and provide ongoing support to hostage families. The families themselves are now taking a more direct role in determining their next steps, with some differences in approach among them regarding future advocacy and political action.
