A giant loggerhead turtle was discovered alive on the Solway Coast by a local walker, Valerie Smith Lang, who initially believed the animal was dead. After contacting animal welfare experts, she cared for the turtle until help arrived, following advice to keep it hydrated and safe. The animal welfare team noted this was the third loggerhead turtle found in the area within a week, likely having drifted from Portugal due to cold waters. The turtle has since been transported to Fife for rehabilitation, with plans for eventual release back into the sea. Conservation groups urge the public to contact experts if they find stranded turtles and to avoid returning them directly to the water.
