Netanyahu says he warned Australian government about antisemitism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the Australian government of fueling antisemitism through its support for a Palestinian state, following a deadly shooting at a Hanukkah festival on Bondi Beach. At least 11 people were killed and 29 injured when two gunmen opened fire on attendees, with one attacker killed by police and another in custody. Netanyahu claimed he had previously warned Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese that such policies would embolden antisemitic acts, and condemned the attack as 'cold blooded murder.'

Australian leaders, including Albanese, denounced the shooting as an act of terrorism and antisemitism, and praised the bravery of emergency responders and bystanders. The attack, which targeted Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, has drawn international condemnation and prompted increased security measures in Jewish communities abroad. Among the victims was British-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, remembered for his dedication to spreading joy and faith. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, including the possibility of additional suspects.
