Sheikh Adam Ismail, the former Islamic teacher of the suspected Bondi shooter, has publicly condemned the recent attack that left 16 people dead and dozens injured. In a video statement, Sheikh Ismail clarified his limited connection to Naveed Akram, stating he only taught him Quran recitation and Arabic for a year and had no involvement in the tragic events. He expressed deep sadness for the victims and emphasized that such violence is strictly forbidden in Islam, highlighting that the Quran teaches the sanctity of innocent life.
Sheikh Ismail also revealed that he and his family have received death threats since the attack, forcing them to evacuate their home with police assistance. Other Muslim leaders in Sydney have joined in condemning the attack, stating they will not perform funeral rites for the alleged shooters or accept their bodies. The broader Islamic community, including the Australian National Imams Council, has expressed solidarity with the victims and reaffirmed that the actions of the attackers are not condoned by their faith.
