Waverley Council has denied claims that it issued parking fines in the aftermath of the Bondi Beach terror attack, clarifying that a widely shared image online showed a fine issued before the incident. The confusion arose because police have kept the area cordoned off as an active crime scene, preventing vehicle owners from moving their cars. The council emphasized that no parking officers have been on patrol since the tragedy and called the social media claims 'totally false.'
In response to the attack, Waverley Council has convened an emergency meeting to provide immediate and ongoing support to the Jewish community, including a proposed $100,000 grant for organizations assisting survivors. The attack, allegedly carried out by a father and son, resulted in at least 15 deaths and dozens of injuries, marking one of Australia's worst mass shootings. Authorities are now reviewing gun laws and investigating how the suspects were able to carry out the attack.
