Jewish Australians have expressed outrage after it was revealed that Naveed Akram, the alleged perpetrator of the recent Bondi Beach terror attack, is receiving taxpayer-funded Legal Aid for his defence. Robert Gregory, CEO of the Australian Jewish Association, called for a discussion on law reform regarding Legal Aid funding for those accused of serious crimes. Akram, who faces 59 charges including 15 counts of murder and committing a terrorist act, appeared in court via audio-visual link while still under police guard in hospital. The attack, which targeted a crowd celebrating a Jewish festival, left 15 dead and dozens injured, with several victims still in critical condition. The case has been adjourned until April 8 as investigators continue to examine evidence and execute further search warrants.
