Italy has announced plans to maintain its military presence in Lebanon even after the United Nations peacekeeping mission concludes at the end of 2026. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto emphasized Italy's commitment to supporting the Lebanese armed forces and ensuring regional stability during a visit to Lebanon. The United Nations mission, which has served as a buffer between Israel and Lebanon since 1978, will end following a final extension approved by the United Nations Security Council. Despite the mission's termination, Italy intends to continue its support both through international cooperation and direct engagement with Lebanon's military.
