State Ombudsman for Judges Asher Kula has closed a disciplinary case against Supreme Court President Isaac Amit, finding only one of ten ethics complaints justified but not warranting disciplinary action. The sole substantiated complaint involved Amit's failure to recuse himself from a case that could have benefited his brother, though Kula determined this did not merit punishment. The ombudsman dismissed the remaining complaints, many of which were submitted by right-wing legal groups just before Amit's appointment, criticizing some as baseless and others as attempts to undermine his candidacy.
Kula also rejected allegations of building violations against Amit, calling them false and harmful to Amit and his family. He noted that the complaints were based on reviews of thousands of judicial decisions from Amit's long career. Despite the ombudsman's findings, Justice Minister Yariv Levin continues to call for Amit's resignation, citing concerns over the conflict of interest issue. Amit has stated that he respects the ombudsman's decision and will consider its recommendations.
