The BBC has paid £28,000 in compensation to an Israeli family who survived the October 7 attack, after a film crew entered their destroyed home without permission. The crew, led by senior correspondent Jeremy Bowen, filmed personal items and photographs, further distressing the Horenstein family who had just endured a violent assault by militants. The family described the BBC's actions as a second intrusion, compounding their trauma and loss of privacy. Following legal proceedings in Israel, the BBC issued a written apology and reached a settlement with the family.
