Palestinian vice president Hussein Al-Sheikh met with former United Nations envoy Nickolay Mladenov in Ramallah, as Mladenov is expected to lead a new United States-backed Board of Peace in Gaza. Their talks focused on the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories, with particular attention to the situation in Gaza, the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire, and the implementation of the United States President's plan and a recent United Nations Security Council resolution.
Mladenov also held meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, as preparations continue for the formation of the Board of Peace, which will oversee a transitional technocratic committee governing Gaza. The second phase of the ceasefire envisions Israeli withdrawal and the disarmament of Hamas, but progress has stalled amid mutual accusations of violations and delays. The Board of Peace is expected to include leaders from several major countries, with an official announcement anticipated soon.
