More crop per drop: NADEC and EF Polymer deploy breakthrough

The National Agricultural Development Company has partnered with EF Polymer to launch large-scale field trials of an innovative organic powder designed to boost water efficiency and crop yields in Saudi Arabia. Upcycled from food waste, the biodegradable material acts as a 'soil battery,' absorbing and gradually releasing water to plant roots, which could reduce irrigation needs by up to 40 percent and improve long-term soil health. The solution also enhances nutrient retention, minimizes fertilizer use, and fully biodegrades into beneficial organic matter after one year. Field trials are focusing on strategic crops such as wheat, olives, and blueberries, aligning with national goals to conserve water and support sustainable agriculture. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to regenerative practices, agri-digitization, and food security in the face of rising global water demand.
