High Court expands panel for Oct. 7 state commission of inquiry petitions to 7 justices

The High Court of Justice has decided to expand the panel of judges reviewing petitions that call for the government to establish a state commission of inquiry into the October seventh Hamas invasion. The panel will now consist of seven justices, a move that signals the court views the matter as particularly significant and sensitive. Previously, the court issued a conditional order requiring the government to justify its refusal to set up an independent commission, shifting the burden of proof onto the government.

Despite these developments, the government has continued to reject calls for a fully independent inquiry. Instead, the ruling coalition is pushing legislation to create a new type of commission, with members selected by both coalition and opposition parties. However, opposition lawmakers are boycotting the legislative process and have pledged to avoid participation in any commission formed under the proposed bill.
