LEM Laboratory, part of the Mor Institute Group and affiliated with Clalit, has announced a significant milestone in human papillomavirus screening, expanding access to molecular testing designed to detect high-risk virus strains and improve early cervical cancer prevention. The laboratory, which performs about half a million biopsies annually, has implemented an automated platform that identifies 14 high-risk strains, enabling more personalized follow-up care. Women with positive results are referred for further evaluation and Pap testing, while those with negative results can continue routine follow-up on a multi-year schedule. LEM has also expanded a self-sampling program, initially piloted in the Southern District, to reach women who do not attend regular gynecological visits, with plans to broaden its availability nationwide. The laboratory emphasizes the importance of both vaccination and early detection, offering the test free of charge every five years for women starting at age 25, and encourages parents to vaccinate their children as part of ongoing prevention efforts.
