Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror, former head of Israel's National Security Council, discussed the United States' hesitation to strike Iran in a recent interview. He suggested that the window for a decisive American action passed when internal unrest in Iran subsided, making any future operation more complex and demanding. Amidror noted that both the United States and Iran are exchanging accusations, but neither side seems ready for a major escalation, with the Americans lacking a clear strategy for regime change.
He also warned that inaction could bolster Iran's regional influence and weaken American standing, especially as Iran may wait for the outcome of the midterm elections before making further moves. Amidror cautioned that if the United States does strike Iran, Israel must be prepared for possible retaliation, which could also present an opportunity to address the Iranian threat directly.
