European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that European leaders are open to cooperating with United States President Donald Trump's newly formed Board of Peace, provided its mandate is restricted to addressing the situation in Gaza. Kallas emphasized that the Board should adhere to the United Nations Security Council resolution and focus solely on Gaza, aligning with its original intent.
Trump announced the Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos, presenting it as a key initiative for post-ceasefire stability in Gaza. The Board will oversee Gaza's demilitarization, reconstruction, and governance, working alongside a Palestinian-led committee and mobilizing international support. Several countries, including Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, have agreed to join, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also accepted an invitation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering participation, with discussions underway between Russian officials and United States envoys. In contrast, Trump withdrew an invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, signaling selective membership for the Board. The European Union's conditional support highlights ongoing diplomatic negotiations over the Board's scope and influence.
