Phase II of the Gaza peace plan is advancing rapidly, but Israel finds itself sidelined in the process. The plan, driven by United States President Donald Trump and his newly appointed Board of Peace, focuses on demilitarization, security, governance, and reconstruction of Gaza. Despite Israel's insistence on preconditions such as the return of hostages and exclusion of certain nations from the peace process, these demands have largely been ignored.
Israel's lack of a comprehensive post-war strategy has resulted in diminished leverage, with key decisions being made without its input. The reopening of the Rafah border crossing and the involvement of Qatar and Turkey in Gaza's reconstruction have further highlighted Israel's waning influence. Critics argue that the government failed to secure its interests, leaving it to comply with international pressure and accept outcomes that may compromise its security.
