Argentine Jew prays in Damascus synagogue closed for 30 years amid Syria's political

An Argentine lawyer with Syrian Jewish heritage, Carlos Gustavo Maslaton, recently prayed inside the French Synagogue in Damascus, which has been closed for over thirty years. The synagogue, once a center for a thriving Jewish community, ceased activity in 1992 as most Jews left Syria. Maslaton's visit, conducted with official permission and under government supervision, included prayers with one of the few remaining Jews in Damascus. The event highlights both the near disappearance of Syrian Jewry and the changing political climate in Syria, which made this rare act of worship possible.
