KLM, the flag carrier of the Netherlands, has begun offering free, unlimited Wi-Fi on its European flights, joining other airlines in enhancing onboard connectivity. The rollout is happening in phases, with half of KLM's European fleet already equipped for free internet access as of January 22. Passengers can connect to Wi-Fi as soon as they are seated or shortly after take-off, provided they log in or register as a Flying Blue member. The service will expand to all A321neo, Embraer 195-E2, and some B737-800 aircraft in the coming years, making travel more comfortable and connected for passengers.
Other European airlines are also advancing their Wi-Fi offerings. Virgin Atlantic is set to provide free, fast Wi-Fi across its fleet by the end of 2027, while British Airways plans to upgrade to free Starlink connectivity in early 2026. Aer Lingus continues to offer paid Wi-Fi packages. In contrast, Ryanair has no plans to introduce onboard Wi-Fi, citing concerns over fuel consumption and low passenger demand for short flights.
KLM's initiative reflects a growing trend among European airlines to prioritize passenger experience through improved connectivity, responding to customer demand for more personal and comfortable travel.
