Three months ago, soldiers requested to extend a security boundary to include a Muslim cemetery in Gaza, citing safety concerns. During initial operations in the area, a terror tunnel was discovered and destroyed, but there was no indication that Ran Gvili was buried there. Recent intelligence, including information obtained from a detained operative, revealed that Gvili's body had been moved between locations and was ultimately buried in the al-Batsh cemetery.
Following these revelations, authorities launched a coordinated operation to recover Gvili's remains. The effort involved opening more than 700 graves and examining over 250 bodies. Eventually, Gvili was found in a hospital body bag, still wearing his police uniform and personal items, bringing closure to a months-long search.
