A mural honouring Jane Haining, a Scottish missionary who cared for Jewish schoolgirls in Budapest during the Second World War and was later killed at Auschwitz, has been unveiled in Paisley. The artwork, designed by Alexander Guy and Caroline Gormley, features images of Haining surrounded by children and will be painted on a prominent wall in the town where she once worked. The unveiling event, held to coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day, was attended by Haining's niece and included wreath-laying and candle-lighting ceremonies. The artists drew inspiration from various mural traditions and aim to complete the painting in the spring, hoping to ensure Haining's story continues to inspire future generations.
