The port at Vizhinjam in Kerala has been officially notified as a customs port, allowing mid-sized vessels and smaller passenger cruise ships from foreign countries to dock and handle cargo. The seaward wharf, spanning over 7,000 square meters, can now process import and export cargo, with designated customs areas for unloading and loading goods. This move is expected to make cargo movement easier for ships from nearby countries and boost coastal trade, as well as attract international cruise ships to the region. The Kerala Maritime Board is also focusing on developing other small ports along the state's coast to enhance cargo and passenger movement.
