West Midlands Police have launched a criminal investigation into a Birmingham-based pro-Palestinian group after it promoted its launch event with a social media post declaring support for 'armed resistance'. The Anti-Zionist Movement, which described itself as 'unapologetically anti-zionist' and 'pro armed resistance', initially deleted the controversial post before removing its entire profile. The group's planned event at an arts centre was cancelled after the venue withdrew, citing safety concerns.
The event was set to feature speakers accused of anti-Zionism and antisemitism, including Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, an NHS doctor recently arrested for allegedly expressing support for Hamas, and Professor David Miller, who was previously dismissed from the University of Bristol for alleged anti-Semitic remarks. Police are investigating whether offences were committed through the group's social media activity, as the debate over the Israel-Gaza conflict continues to spark controversy in Birmingham.
