A fire broke out Tuesday evening in an internal medicine ward at Sanz Medical Center in Netanya after a patient allegedly lit a cigarette in his hospital room, violating hospital regulations.
The patient who reportedly smoked was moderately injured, while another patient in the same room sustained light injuries. An automatic fire suppression system was activated, and firefighters were called to the scene.
Hospital officials said the blaze was extinguished quickly and posed no danger to other patients. There was no need to evacuate the ward, and the hospital is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
