Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to Jeddah to attend an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to address Israel's recent actions in the West Bank. The session will focus on Israeli land registration measures that many Muslim-majority countries view as steps toward expanding settlements and potential annexation.
Pakistan's foreign office said Dar will present the country's position against what it described as illegal efforts to convert parts of the occupied West Bank into so-called 'state land.' The visit, scheduled from Feb. 26 to 28, will also include bilateral meetings with counterparts from other member states.
Israel's move to advance land registration procedures in parts of the West Bank for the first time since 1967 has drawn condemnation from Pakistan and 21 other Muslim nations. They warned that such actions could lead to unacceptable de facto annexation and further weaken prospects for a two-state solution. More than 500,000 Israeli settlers currently live in West Bank settlements alongside about three million Palestinians, with settlements widely regarded as illegal under international law, a view Israel disputes.
