Pakistan and Azerbaijan have called for de-escalation in the region following rising tensions linked to intensifying attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States. The appeal came during a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev after drone strikes targeted civilians in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan exclave.
Four people were wounded in the drone attacks, which Azerbaijan blamed on Iran, while Tehran denied responsibility and accused Israel of staging a provocation. Sharif strongly condemned the strikes on Nakhchivan and expressed full solidarity with Azerbaijan, reaffirming Pakistan's support during what he described as a difficult time.
Both leaders emphasized the need to restore peace and prevent further escalation in the region. Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its support, as Islamabad continues diplomatic outreach and urges all parties involved in the Iran confrontation to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
