Satellite images and verified videos show that schools, a hospital, sporting venues and historic landmarks have been heavily damaged since United States and Israeli strikes on Iran began on Saturday, with civilian casualties mounting. A United States based human rights group reports that 1,168 civilians, including 194 children, have been killed. An almost complete nationwide internet blackout has made it difficult to verify the full scale of the impact.

Among the sites hit were a school in Minab where Iranian officials say 168 people were killed, another school in Urmia, and the Gandhi Hospital in Tehran, where footage showed shattered windows, debris and patients being evacuated. The Israeli military said the hospital sustained minor damage from a strike on a nearby military facility, while Iranian officials called the attack a blatant war crime. International health officials stressed that medical facilities are protected under international humanitarian law.

Sporting complexes, commercial properties, and cultural landmarks including the Grand Bazaar and the Golestan Palace, a United Nations world heritage site, also suffered damage. Funeral processions have been held for victims, while residents describe relentless രാത്രals of bombing and deep psychological strain. The United Nations refugee agency says around 100,000 people fled Tehran in the first two days of strikes.

Legal experts note that international law prohibits deliberate attacks on civilian sites unless they are used for military purposes, though incidental damage may occur during strikes on military targets. With communications severely restricted, the true scale of civilian harm may not be fully known.
