Ron Arad's widow calls for an end to operations risking IDF soldiers in search for his remains

The widow of missing Israeli airman Ron Arad has called on the government to halt any recovery efforts that could endanger soldiers, following confirmation of an overnight raid in Lebanon that did not retrieve his remains. In a public statement, she said the family’s repeated requests to avoid risking troops have been ignored by decision-makers.

She emphasized that while the family deeply wishes to learn what happened to Arad, that desire ends where danger to Israel Defense Forces soldiers begins. According to her, the sanctity of life must take precedence over the commitment to return a fallen fighter for burial.

After nearly 40 years of uncertainty, she said the family would rather continue living with painful doubt than learn that a soldier was wounded or killed in an operation to recover Arad’s remains. She expressed gratitude for the ongoing efforts and dedication of security forces, but urged leaders to honor the family’s request to prioritize the lives of soldiers above all else.
