New York City is mourning the death of Police Department officer and Army National Guard Major Sorffly Davius, who died in Kuwait after suffering a medical episode while deployed in support of Operation Epic Fury. He was stationed at Camp Buehring and serving with the 42nd Infantry Division at the time of his death.
Davius was a 12-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, assigned to Brooklyn's 79th Precinct. He joined the department in 2014 and also served with Joint Task Force Empire Shield, which protects high-profile locations across the city. Alongside his police career, he rose to the rank of major in the Army National Guard.
City and state leaders paid tribute to Davius, describing him as a devoted public servant who dedicated his life to protecting others. His death comes amid Operation Epic Fury, a United States-led military campaign targeting Iranian military and strategic infrastructure, during which several American service members have been killed as tensions in the region escalated.
