The war with Iran intensified after joint military strikes by the United States and Israel killed Iran's longtime Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in an operation designed by President Donald Trump and supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The strikes marked a major escalation in the regional conflict and reshaped Iran's leadership.
In a telephone interview, Trump said the decision to end the war would be made 'mutually' with Netanyahu, though he indicated he would make the final call. He claimed the intervention prevented Iran from destroying Israel and described close coordination between the two leaders throughout the campaign.
While Trump declined to provide a clear timeline for ending the conflict, the White House has indicated the fighting could last between four and six weeks. Meanwhile, Iran announced that Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, would succeed him as the new leader, signaling a new phase in the country's political future amid the ongoing war.
