The European Union’s top diplomat urged all sides to uphold a 2024 ceasefire to prevent Lebanon from descending into chaos, warning that escalating violence is destabilizing the region. Speaking after crisis talks in Brussels with Middle Eastern leaders, including Lebanon’s president, she stressed the need for restraint.
She called on Israel to halt its military operations in Lebanon, describing its response to attacks as heavy handed. At the same time, she urged Hezbollah to disarm and cease all actions against Israel.
Emphasizing diplomacy as the only viable path forward, she said a return to the ceasefire offers the best chance of preserving stability in Lebanon and avoiding further regional turmoil.
