United States President Donald Trump said that Australia has agreed to grant asylum to several members of Iran's visiting women's football team after some players refused to sing their national anthem during matches held amid the Middle East war.
Trump said he spoke with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and that five players had already been assisted. He added that while some team members are seeking protection, others feel compelled to return to Iran due to concerns about the safety of their families.
According to Trump, certain players fear that relatives could face threats if they do not go back to Iran, complicating decisions about whether to remain abroad or return home.
