Up to 3.2 million people have been displaced within Iran since the outbreak of the Middle East war nearly two weeks ago, according to the United Nations refugee agency. Preliminary assessments indicate that between 600,000 and one million households have been forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing conflict.
Ayaki Ito, head of the agency's emergency support team and refugee response coordinator for the Middle East emergency, warned that the number is expected to rise as hostilities continue. He described the situation as a worrying escalation in humanitarian needs across the country.
The agency has not provided figures for people displaced in Gulf countries or Israel as a result of Iran's attacks.
