Poland says it has foiled a cyberattack targeting its National Centre for Nuclear Research, with early indications suggesting the operation may have originated in Iran. Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said the breach attempt occurred in recent days and was successfully stopped before causing damage.
Gawkowski noted that preliminary analysis of the entry points used in the attack points to locations linked to Iran, though he cautioned that such indicators could be a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators about the true source. He said authorities are continuing to verify the findings before reaching a final conclusion.
Poland has faced numerous cyberattacks since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The targeted research center focuses on nuclear energy and subatomic physics. Poland does not possess nuclear weapons and is currently developing its first nuclear power plant.
