Citibank has temporarily closed most of its branches and financial centers in the United Arab Emirates until March 14, citing safety concerns amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The branch located in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai remains open, with all other affected locations expected to reopen on March 16. The bank has shifted to a fully remote working model for its staff in the country while continuing to serve clients.

The move follows threats by Iran against Gulf banking interests linked to the United States and Israel. Citibank evacuated offices in the Dubai International Financial Center and the Oud Metha district, stating that the decision was based on information received and aimed at prioritizing employee safety.

The broader conflict has resulted in significant casualties and disrupted global energy markets and transportation across the region. Other international banks have taken similar precautions, with a major British bank closing all its branches in Qatar. The unrest has also raised concerns about Dubai’s reputation as a stable business hub, with fears of capital outflows and company relocations. Meanwhile, Citibank warned that phone banking services are operating at limited capacity and cheque processing may face delays.
