The community kitchen at Mata Mansa Devi Temple in Panchkula has been shut for three days due to a severe shortage of commercial liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, leaving hundreds of devotees without free meals. The kitchen, operated by the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Bhandara Committee Charitable Trust, was forced to halt cooking as gas supplies completely dried up, affecting both the main langar hall and food distribution vans serving the poor.
Temple authorities said the shortage is part of a wider national disruption linked to global tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which have impacted fuel supplies. Officials and local leaders stated that efforts are underway to restore gas supplies and resume kitchen services at the earliest.
If supplies do not resume soon, the committee plans to temporarily switch to wood or coal-fired furnaces and prepare limited meals such as kadhi-chawal or dal-chawal to ensure devotees receive basic food. The crisis has also led to a surge in demand for electric cooking appliances in Panchkula, with shops reporting record sales and several items selling out as households look for alternatives to gas cooking.
