An Israeli strike in Beirut killed Murtada Hussein Sarour, a member of Hezbollah's drone unit, near the Lebanese University, according to the Israeli military's Arabic-language spokeswoman. Sarour was identified as part of the group's aerial forces, known as Unit 127, which is responsible for launching explosive drones and conducting surveillance operations against Israel.
Sarour was also a chemistry lecturer at the Lebanese University. The Israeli military said he combined his academic career with operational activity in Hezbollah and described him as part of a broader pattern of operatives who work in academic institutions while supporting the group's weapons production and drone capabilities.
He was the brother of Muhammad Hussein Sarour, a former commander of Unit 127 who was killed by Israel in September 2024.
