A drone strike killed two members of an Iranian Kurdish armed opposition group in northern Iraq on Friday, according to a senior official from the exiled organization, who blamed Iran for the attack. The strike reportedly targeted a position in the mountains of Bashiqa, an area under Kurdish control between Mosul and the autonomous Kurdistan region, and also wounded four others.
The Khabat Organization of Iranian Kurdistan said the drone hit one of its bases in the afternoon. Another Iranian Kurdish opposition group, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, separately accused Iran of targeting one of its civilian bases near the regional capital Erbil, though no casualties were reported in that incident.
Iran has repeatedly targeted Iranian Kurdish exiled groups based in northern Iraq since the start of the broader regional conflict. Several of these groups recently formed a political coalition aimed at overthrowing Iran's Islamic Republic and pursuing Kurdish self-determination.
