Attacker shot himself after getting stuck in car he rammed into Michigan synagogue -- FBI

A 41-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after ramming his vehicle into a synagogue in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The suspect, identified as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, drove into Temple Israel on Thursday afternoon, became stuck inside a hallway, and began firing a gun through his windshield.

An armed security officer at the synagogue fired at the suspect through the back window of the vehicle. Authorities said the man ultimately shot himself when he was unable to free the vehicle, which had become wedged inside the building. The vehicle’s engine later caught fire.

Investigators found large quantities of commercial-grade fireworks and several containers of a liquid believed to be gasoline inside the vehicle. While reports noted that some of the suspect’s relatives were recently killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, officials cautioned against speculating about a motive as the investigation continues.
