A senior Iranian lawmaker has warned that Ukraine could become a 'legitimate target' for Iran, accusing Kyiv of supporting Israel with drones during the ongoing conflict. Ebrahim Azizi, who heads the national security and foreign policy committee in the Iranian parliament, claimed that by aiding Israel, Ukraine had effectively entered the war and could be targeted under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He did not provide details about the alleged assistance.
The accusation follows statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Ukraine has sent drone interception systems and specialists to Jordan to help defend United States bases. Reports also indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sought talks with Zelenskyy on potential cooperation in countering Iranian drones.
Ukraine has developed extensive expertise in intercepting Iranian designed Shahed drones during more than four years of war with Russia. Zelenskyy has said that several countries have approached Kyiv for help in defending against such threats, and he has expressed readiness to share Ukraine’s experience to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and Gulf region.
